Sydney Theatre Company presents : Uncle Vanya

Last nite we were at Sydney Theatre Company to watch Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya which is adapted by Andrew Upton(Mr.Blanchett)..I'm not gonna give you even a brief summarize about the play,i believe if you google it you can get more.

Well, the staging was fantastic, the performances and characterisation spectacular, times I could not hear the dialogue..All the beautiful monologues were washed over ..Unfortunately the weakest point was with adaption i suppose, the fact is missing the humor and playing only the tragedy.(i really wonder when there is a russian play adaption,it is always the same mistake that to show all the tragedy and forget about all emotional journey and humor)Therefore the comedy was nearly slapstick.

I was fascinated by Hayley McElhinney( as Sonya) dramatically beautiful..Hugo Weaving absolutely adorable and lovely Cate..

I really enjoyed the part that Yelena and Sonya gets drunk together(by Vodka of course!)it was purely real to me..Love affairs between Doctor and Yelena was also breathtaking..

Gliding between comedy and tragedy, this classic from Anton Chekhov with successful cast puts a smile on your face at the end of the day.

i got this paragraph from Timeout Sydney's website where Cate Blanchett shares few words:
"I would hope that they've experienced deep sadness and absolute hilarity, and have fallen in and out of love with all the characters (often simultaneously!) in the course of the evening." As Chekhov wrote in one of his many short stories: "How strange... why does God give sweetness of nature, sad, nice, kind eyes, to weak, unhappy useless people - and why are they so attractive?"

Cate Blanchett Sandy Gore, Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving attend the opening night of 'Uncle Vanya' at Sydney Theatre on November 13, 2010 in Sydney, Australia.
